Choose What’s Right for You!
During Annual Enrollment each year you have the following opportunities
Visit allHR > My Time Off > Paid Time Off for information on selling or buying PTO for the coming Fiscal Year.
Each year, Memorial Hermann observes seven designated holidays.
Working on a Designated Holiday
If you work on a designated holiday, you will be paid for the designated holiday hours on the paycheck for the pay period in which the holiday occurs. You will receive the designated holiday hours in addition to any hours worked. The holiday cannot be used in lieu of any other time off during the pay period or any other pay period.
Full-time employees are eligible to receive up to two personal holidays and one spiritual holiday each Fiscal Year. Newly hired employees or employees classified as full-time won’t receive the personal holidays until their 91st day of employment and need to use the holidays before the first pay period of the new Fiscal Year.
In some instances, you may receive only a portion of your personal holidays:
Important Note: “Use-it-or-lose-it” — Your personal holidays must be used by the last day of the first pay period in the following fiscal year. They do not transfer to the next fiscal year.
Requesting Personal Holidays
You must request and schedule your personal holiday in advance through My Time and Schedule. You must obtain your supervisor’s approval unless it is an unforeseen emergency involving you or your family. Unscheduled use of a personal holiday will count as an occurrence of absence.
Selling Personal Holidays
Employees are given the opportunity to sell their personal holidays during annual enrollment each year for cash, which is considered taxable income on your paycheck. A lump-sum payout for any personal holidays sold will occur in December.
All full-time employees are eligible for one (1) spiritual holiday per fiscal year, which is awarded during annual enrollment each year. Newly hired or newly eligible employees receive the spiritual holiday immediately upon eligibility.
Important Note: “Use-it-or-lose-it” – Your spiritual holiday must be used by the last day of the first pay period in the following Fiscal Year. It does not transfer to the next Fiscal Year, and you cannot sell spiritual holidays.
Requesting a Spiritual Holiday
You must request and schedule your spiritual holiday in advance through My Time and Schedule and obtain your supervisor’s approval. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request on your chosen spiritual holiday, however, when patient care or other business needs make this impossible, you will be granted an alternative spiritual holiday of your choice. Unscheduled use of your spiritual holiday will count as an occurrence of absence, unless your absence is related to an approved Family Medical Leave (FML).
If you are an eligible* full-time employee, you will have the opportunity to use a total of 160 hours of paid parental leave, continuing 100% of pay, in the year following a child’s birth or adoption. Eligible part-time employees will have 80 hours of paid parental leave at 100%.
If you require time off from work for birth and/or bonding you will need to notify your manager of your need for leave and contact the Memorial Hermann Leave Management Center (Sedgwick) to determine which leave of absence plan(s) you may qualify for and begin the application process.
Contact Sedgwick at 855.547.3307 to confirm your eligibility.
Visit allHR for additional information about paid parental leave.
*Eligible employees include full-time and part-time employees employed with Memorial Hermann with one year of service.
