Time Away From Work

We know you love your job, but sometimes you need time away from work to care for yourself and others, celebrate and spend time with family and friends. That’s why we offer the following generous time off policies:

You start accruing PTO on your first day of employment.

Exempt Full-Time Employees

Accrual Rate

1st day to 9 years

160 hours/year (6.15 hours/pay period)

10 to 19 years

184 hours/year (7.08 hours/pay period)

20+ years

200 hours/year (7.69 hours/pay period)

1st day to 2 years

120 hours/year (4.62 hours/pay period)

3 to 9 years

136 hours/year (5.23 hours/pay period)

10 to 19 years

184 hours/year (7.08 hours/pay period)

20+ years

200 hours/year (7.69 hours/pay period)

Note: Part-time employees must work 40 hours per pay period to accrue PTO. To calculate your accrual rate, divide the number of hours you work per pay period by 80. Then multiply that number by the full-time accrual rate.

Certain non-exempt positions accrue PTO at an exempt rate. Refer to the PTO policy on allHR > My Time Off for more information.

Full-time and part-time employees who change to supplemental status with at least one year of service will have PTO paid out upon status change, to a maximum of 240 hours.

Choose What’s Right for You!

During Annual Enrollment each year you have the following opportunities

  • You can buy up to 24 hours of additional PTO (in 8-hour increments) to be used for the next Fiscal Year. The cost for additional PTO is based on base pay rate and spread out over 26 pay periods.
  • You can elect to sell up to half of your PTO accrued during the upcoming fiscal year.

Visit allHR for details.

Designated holidays

Each year, Memorial Hermann observes seven designated holidays.

  • New Year’s Day

Personal Holidays (PHO) and Spiritual Holiday (SHO)

Full-time employees are eligible to receive up to two personal holidays and one spiritual holiday each Fiscal Year. Newly hired employees or employees classified as full-time won’t receive the personal holidays until their 91st day of employment and need to use the holidays before the first pay period of the new Fiscal Year.

In some instances, you may receive only a portion of your personal holidays:

  • Employees hired or reclassified as full-time on or after July 1 but before January 1 of the following year will receive two personal holidays (the equivalent of 16 hours) to use during the remainder of the Fiscal Year.
  • Employees hired or reclassified as full-time on or after January 1 but before March 1 will receive one personal holiday (the equivalent of eight hours) to use during the remainder of the Fiscal Year.
  • Employees hired or reclassified as full-time on or after March 1 but before July 1 will not receive any personal holidays to be used during the remainder of the Fiscal Year.

Full-time employees receive the spiritual holiday on their date of employment.

Eligible* full-time employees will have the opportunity to use a total of 160 hours of paid parental leave, continuing 100% of pay, in the year following a child’s birth or adoption. Eligible part-time employees will have 80 hours of paid parental leave at 100%.

If you require time off from work for birth and/or bonding you will need to notify your manager of your need for leave and contact the Memorial Hermann Leave Management Center (Sedgwick) to determine which leave of absence plan(s) you may qualify for and begin the application process.

You can determine your eligibility and engage in the application process by contacting Sedgwick at 1.855.547.3307.

*Eligible employees include full-time and part-time employees employed with Memorial Hermann with one year of service.

If you need to, you can also take time off for:

  • Family Medical Leave
  • Extended Medical Leave
  • Bereavement Leave
  • Jury Duty
