You may already be saving, paying down debt and using your benefits—now it’s about looking for opportunities to strengthen those habits and make your money work harder.

Use these Memorial Hermann benefits and programs to help you protect what you’ve built, manage competing priorities and make thoughtful decisions that support you now and in the future.

Once you’ve developed a financial foundation, the next step is finding opportunities to save more and put your money to work toward different goals, like retirement.

  • Increase your retirement contribution: If you’re already contributing enough to receive the full Memorial Hermann match of 6% (or 3% if you’re eligible for the Pension Plan), consider whether you have room to increase your contribution. Even a 1% increase can add up over time.
  • Review how your retirement savings are invested: You do not need to be an investment expert to get started. Fidelity’s Smart Money Playbook can help you understand what your options mean and how factors like your timeline and comfort with risk can shape your approach.
  • Redirect money as expenses change: Paid off a car or student loan? Received a raise? Reduced a recurring expense? Consider directing some of that money toward retirement or another savings goal before it becomes part of everyday spending.
  • Balance today’s goals with tomorrow’s: You may be saving for several things at once—an emergency fund, a home, education or retirement. Fidelity Goal Booster can help you explore your savings and investing options, manage your goals, and start saving today.
  • Keep your savings on track: An unexpected bill doesn’t have to derail your savings goals. DailyPay gives you access to wages you’ve already earned, which may help you avoid a late fee or dipping into savings. Remember, any amount you access early will reduce your next paycheck, so plan ahead for upcoming expenses.

As your finances grow, you may be balancing debt repayment with saving for other goals. Memorial Hermann resources can help you understand where to focus, build a plan and keep moving toward greater financial stability.

  • Reevaluate your repayment strategy: Review your balances and interest rates periodically. As debts disappear or your income changes, decide where your extra payments can have the greatest impact. For example, focus on paying down the highest interest rate.
  • Balance debt, saving and investing: Fidelity’s How to Balance Debt, Saving and Investing can help you decide when extra money may be better directed toward high-interest debt, emergency savings or long-term goals.
  • Get help paying down eligible student loans: Student loan payments can make it harder to save, manage everyday expenses or plan for other goals.
    • Learn Well: You may be eligible for monthly student loan payments from Memorial Hermann to help reduce what you owe. Visit Learn Well to review eligibility, payment amounts and program requirements.
    • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF): You may also be eligible for federal PSLF, which can forgive remaining student loan balances after qualifying payments at a qualifying employer. Because this is a federal program, eligibility rules are subject to change. Visit studentaid.gov/pslf to check eligibility and submit the required Employment Certification Form.

If you’re a parent, Bright Horizons College Coach gives you free access to impartial guidance from former senior admissions and financial aid officers, plus free resources, live events and more, without adding another expense to your family’s budget. You also have access to free test prep and tutoring resources through Bright Horizons.

Support Your Parents—While Protecting Your Finances

Helping aging parents manage their money is one of the hardest financial conversations many of us face, and it’s easy to put your own plans on hold to do it.

In this Money Unscripted podcast, Fidelity shares ways to support a parent’s finances without derailing your own budget.

Some Memorial Hermann benefits can help with expenses you may otherwise pay for on your own. Before paying full price or taking on additional debt, check whether a Memorial Hermann benefit can help.

  • Need a new appliance or computer? Purchasing Power allows you to buy a wide selection of products, like computers and appliances, through payroll deductions, without needing a credit check or down payment.
  • Paying full price for everyday purchases? The Employee Discount Spot helps you save on everyday expenses and larger purchases, giving you more room in your budget for other financial goals. Visit Beneplace to view deals on travel, entertainment, electronics and more.
  • Going back to school? Memorial Hermann provides education assistance through Learn Well. This benefit offers low-cost and even no-cost options through partner schools, along with direct payment programs that may reduce what you need to pay upfront or borrow for eligible education programs.
  • Setting new health goals? Expert guidance is normally costly—but eligible Memorial Hermann employees can get specialized support at little or no cost through Noom for weight management and Midi Health for perimenopause and menopause care.
  • Get help with certain legal and identity theft issues: If you’re enrolled in the MetLife Group Legal Plan, you have access to expert legal advice for personal legal matters. If identity theft affects your finances, an attorney can also help you contact banks and creditors and address certain legal issues resulting from identity theft.

A Safer Way to Cover a Big Expense

Unlike a high-interest credit card, Purchasing Power sets your spending limit based on your eligibility—so you’re not tempted to overextend—and lets you pay off your balance anytime with no penalty if you want to close it out early.

As you make progress toward your financial goals, planning for health care costs can help protect the savings you’ve built. Now is an important time to review your coverage, anticipate likely expenses and consider whether additional protection fits your needs.

Prepare for What You Expect

  • Review your medical coverage: If you’re enrolled in a medical plan through Memorial Hermann, review plan comparisons, plan premiums and Aetna resources to understand how your coverage works. It’s important to reevaluate your needs each year, especially if your health, family or financial situation has changed.
  • How you use your benefits throughout the year matters, too. Choosing in-network providers for medical, dental and vision care will almost always save you money. Eligible preventive care, like your annual wellness visit or certain screenings, is covered at 100% when you use an in-network provider. It can help catch health concerns early, potentially avoiding more costly care down the road, and help you earn a $600 Employee Health Credit toward your medical premiums. For savings at the pharmacy, review Ways to Save on Prescription Drugs.
  • Use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA): Allocate a set amount each pay period toward qualified health or dependent care expenses, which can reduce your taxable income and help make certain costs more predictable.
  • Planning to grow your family? If you or a family member is enrolled in a Memorial Hermann medical plan, the MH Maternity Experience Program provides the expectant parent with personalized guidance, resources and hands-on support they need throughout pregnancy and up to one year postpartum. Additionally, keep in mind that optional Hospital Indemnity Insurance pays a cash benefit for a hospital admission—and may even pay a $250 newborn benefit.

Prepare for What You Can’t Predict

  • A serious illness: Critical Illness Insurance serves as a financial safety net when you or a covered dependent is diagnosed with a serious illness, such as cancer, heart attack or stroke. This benefit provides a cash payment and the flexibility to use the funds however you choose.
  • An accident: Accident Insurance provides financial protection for covered accidents—so if you love hiking, biking or playing in a weekend softball league, this benefit may offer some peace of mind. This benefit, also available to your dependents, provides a cash payment and the flexibility to use the funds however you choose.
  • A hospital stay: Hospital Indemnity Insurance provides a cash payout for a covered hospital stay, whether it’s due to an accident, illness or even childbirth.

You Can Earn a $75 Wellness Benefit

Each voluntary health plan described in this section also provides a $75 wellness benefit per person when you or a covered dependent gets an annual checkup or recommended screening. Refer to the Wellness Benefit brochure for details.
